The Gellhorn pessary with drains is primarily used for cystocele, rectocele, and second or third-degree uterine prolapse. This pessary’s stem with knob is easily folded to aid with insertion and removal.

Insertion

Fold one side of the thin, flexible outer circular disc flat against the rigid stem to minimize its entry profile, lubricate only the leading edge of the folded disc while maintaining a dry grip on the stem, and guide it obliquely through the introitus. Use the stem to advance the unfolded disc deep into the vaginal vault until its concave surface directly faces and cradles the cervix or apex, creating a natural suction that locks the device securely inside the canal with the stem pointing downward toward the opening.
